LA GRAVURE EST UN DESSIN TRACÉ, ET INCISÉ EN CREUX SUR UNE PLAQUE DE CUIVRE, DANS LE BUT DE LE REPRODUIRE PAR IMPRESSION GRÂCE À UNE PRESSE.
The engraving is a drawing, traced and engraved in hollow on a copper plate, with the aim of reproducing it by printing with a PRESS.
CETTE PLAQUE DE CUIVRE EST UNE MATRICE.
This copper plate is called MATRIX.

INKING
CETTE MATRICE EST ENSUITE ENCRÉE AVEC DIFFÉRENTES COULEURS POUR OBTENIR UNE VARIÉTÉ DE TEINTES.
The matrix is then inked in several colors to obtain different shades.
CETTE TECHNIQUE PARTICULIÈRE S'APPELLE :
L'ENCRAGE À LA POUPÉE.
This particular technique is called :
L'encrage à la poupée (Inking with the doll).
ESSUYAGE
WIPING
LA MATRICE EST ESSUYÉE JUSQU'À CE QUE L'ENCRE À LA SURFACE SOIT RETIRÉE. SEUL LE DESSIN GRAVÉ EST ENCRÉ.
The matrix is wiped until the ink on the surface is removed. Only the engraved drawing is inked.
L'ENCRAGE À LA POUPÉE & L'ESSUYAGE NE POUVANT ÊTRE REPRODUIT FIDÈLEMENT, CHAQUE RÉSULTAT EST UNIQUE.
Doll inking and wiping can't be reproduced accurately, each result is unique.
IMPRESSION
PRINTING
LA MATRICE ET SON PAPIER PASSE SOUS LES ROULEAUX DE LA PRESSE. L'ENCRE SE DÉPOSE SUR LE PAPIER RÉVÉLANT LE RÉSULTAT DE LA GRAVURE.
The matrix and its papier pass under the roll of the press. The ink settles on paper revealing the result of the engraving.
L'IMAGE OBTENUE EST APPELÉE ESTAMPE.
The resulting image is called Print.

POUR CHAQUE MATRICE, UN NOMBRE D'EXEMPLAIRE EST CHOISI.
CHAQUE ESTAMPE EST NUMÉROTÉE ET SIGNÉE PAR L'AUTEUR.
For each matrix, a number of copies is chosen.
Each print is numbered and signed by the author.
